2011/03/08: Nanotron 1.03

While creating gameplay videos for Nanotron, I noticed a bug, which I fixed. The sound that plays when you get a stop germs power up would keep playing if you died before the power up ran out, but that will no longer happen. I made a couple of other minor changes, and this update is now available.

I'm thinking about uploading another new version of LPC that will have a streamlined set of start screens. Instead of having a screen to select the game and a screen to select the level, all 3 games should have their levels on one screen. I plan to eliminate some of the levels to make them fit on the screen since changing the size of the level doesn't really change the game.

2011/03/05: New Free Game

I've just uploaded Calfstronaut's Computer Bug Infection [Edit: Link removed. If you want to play this game, get the demo of the shareware version.]. It's a small game that Eduardo made with Gamemaker. He's going to work on a high definition version with more levels and more features, so this free game gives you a chance to make suggestions for the much larger game.

2011/03/03: LPC 1.05

I've just uploaded Lucky's Puzzle Carnival version 1.05. This version fixes the performance issues that people with older computers have been having and fixes a bug with the timer. The recommendation for a 32 MB video card has been dropped because it's no longer necessary.

I've also eliminated a couple of free online games that contain ads. Don't worry though, Eduardo made another free game that I'll be putting up soon. It won't contain any ads.

2011/02/28: Angelband Build 54

I uploaded the newest Angelband demo. It's still basically unplayable, but I updated the status screen significantly. I just wanted to make the new status screen available for comment.

I deleted this website's forum because it wasn't being used by anyone except spambots. If you want to discuss something, visit us on Facebook and use our discussion board.

2011/02/21: Angelband Demo

I've uploaded the first Angelband demo. See the Angelband page for details. [Edit: URL now points to UgaritRL, which is the current incarnation of Angelband.]

At this point, I'm just posting a demo to get feedback on the status screen. You can't do anything in the game besides upgrade your statistics, walk around, and open a door.

2011/02/20: Dating Sims

I've added 3 dating sims to the site: Bionic Heart, College Romance, and Love and Order. They're all in the "Adventure" section.

On a sadder note, I've removed Castle of the Winds. While it's an awesome game, it doesn't work on 64-bit versions of Windows 7. There may be other games with the same limitation, but this is the one I've noticed. I don't want to have games on the site that won't work on newer computers.

2011/02/12: Website Updates

I've updated the menu and front page of the website significantly. Each of our games is linked to at the top of the menu so that they can be easily accessed. I've dropped some of the menu options that don't seem to be important.

On the front page, only 1 featured game will be displayed, and which games are displayed will change every time you view the website.

Now that the website is fixed up, it's time to do so programming!

2010/12/13: Kivi's Underworld Available

I've made Kivi's Underworld available as an affiliate sale, and I'll probably make the multiplayer expansion available as well.

Also, my bio has been updated to reflect the switch from RBI to Angelband.

I probably won't be making many more changes to the website in the near future because I got a new job. I'll try to upload something if I get a chance.

I'm messing around with Angelband, but it will be a long time before I have a playable demo. I simply don't have enough time to work on it.

2010/12/02: Din's Curse Available

We're now selling Din's Curse as an affiliate for only $19.99! Expect more small additions to the site in the near future.

Also, the news page is slightly enhanced. Instead of having to navigate to older posts one page at a time, the news page now has a Google-like row of page names at the bottom.

2010/11/09: Updated Links Page

You've probably already noticed the Facebook badge that replaced the new games section a while ago. Orbital Cows Software now has a presence on Facebook.

I've done some long overdue clean up on the Links page. I fixed a dead link, removed some games, and improved the descriptions of some others. I might add more links later because the links page is looking rather empty.

I've been working on Angelband (the new working title of my next project) on and off, but it's going to be a long time before I have a quality demo coded up.

2010/11/09: Sangband on YouTube

I'm going to periodically be posting some gameplay videos of various games on YouTube. Here's an example of the Sangband series I've started:

I'm not going to include any commentary or background music for this particular set of videos. That may seem a little bit lame, but I've chosen to allow the viewers to decide what's going on for themselves.

2010/10/25: LPC 1.04

I've posted version 1.04 of Lucky's Puzzle Carnival. The main improvements are the following:

  • Animation options are turned on by default
  • Bug fix: fixed game crash when playing sound (possibly more than one copy of the same at a time)
  • Bug fix: won screen doesn't crash, correct image is blended
  • Dropped redundant text and screen mode list slider from options screen
  • Eliminated Mac version (actually done previously)
  • Eliminated window mode and resolutions greater than 1024x768
  • Increased animation speed
  • Updated buy frame and splash screen to say "Orbital Cows Software"
  • Updated to java 6 update 22

There were some other, more minor, modifications as well. In general, the game should seem a little less sluggish, and 2 game-crashing bugs are fixed. On the website, some of the games' prices are corrected. Alot of the games on the website are priced lower than they used to be.

I've been thinking about calling the demo-ish angelic RPG "Elohimband" and making it something like the "Sangband" variant of "Angband", though it won't actually use any part of the Angband codebase. This game will probably be freeware when it's completed, though I don't have any release date in mind yet.

2010/10/18: Angelic RPG

At this point, I'm planning to work on an RPG about angels, rather than about rabbits. RBI will most likely not be completed. My previous plan was to program RBI and then use a modified version of the same engine for a video game about angels. I've decided to program 2 games about angels instead, with the first one being a much simpler freeware game.

I may post some kind of rule system for angelic RPGs. I've already determined that I'm going to use a dice system vaguely similar to that used in the World of Darkness for determining the success or failure of skills. For any skill attempt, you roll a number of 6-sided dice dependant upon your ability with that skill. Harder tasks will require more successes. A system that simple should be appropriate for pen-and-paper play as well as video game play.

I've even computed the probability of getting a particular number of successes with a particular number of dice:

2010/05/26: Added Games and a Review

I added three games today: Cute Knight Kingdom, Date Warp, and Tasty Planet. I would have added Tasty Planet sooner if I realized I could sell it as an affiliate.

I also deleted all references to Mac OS X in the system requirements for games. We aren't selling Mac games any more, so there's no point in mentioning the Mac versions of games. I fixed the top of Cute Knight Deluxe's page and reassigned it to the Adventure genre, which seems to be a more common designation for it than RPG.

Finally, I added a review for the game "My Life Story". It even includes YouTube videos that I made myself (since there weren't any already made). The videos aren't as high quality as I would like, but it's better than nothing.

RBI's still languishing. I haven't gotten alot of coding done, but, at least, I have a much better idea of what the game will be like when it's finished.
