I am Moisin Irofin II. I spontaneously came into existence and was confronted by a banner with the text "Shadow Lords".
I took a moment to look at myself. Where did I come from? I can only assume that I appeared out of nothing. I'm a male dwarf, and I'm skilled as a rogue. Like most dwarves, I have exceptional endurance. Other than a complete lack of common sense, I'm pretty impressive. I should qualify that by saying that I'm charismatic for a dwarf, but not so much in comparison to other species.
I have no opinions about good and evil or law and chaos at this time.
My primary skills are Disarm Traps, Heal, Hiding, Lore, Move Silently, Open Locks, Persuade, Search, Tumble, and Use Magical Devices. I plan to develop these further later. Though I haven't developed much thus far, I have the luck of a hero.
A vision of the past came to me. My predecessor, Moisin I, had once wanted to use a magical statue simply to see what it did. Not having my skill of using magical devices, he was unable to do so. It is almost as if I was a better, more refined version of him. Perhaps there were others who lacked some of my potential as well.
So far as equipment goes, I had basically nothing back then. My days of wandering around with a short sword are not something I remember fondly. I had a nice map and a strange magical journal, in which strange writings appeared and changed. They were the sorts of things no one would ever write down, but they inspired me to write this journal.
This is a module for Neverwinter Nights, which was played by the character Moisin Irofin II.
Looking around, I discovered that I was in a temple of some kind. The monks refused to talk to me, but a woman named Josura sent me to bring a message to Captain Preth, who was leading Red Shield soldiers in the mountains. I had to find a halfling named Thistle to take me there and then deliver the message.
At Josura's suggestion, I brought a wannabe paladin named Nooble Unders with me. He seemed kind of like a loser, but I might need the help.
Immediately after leaving the temple, I encountered a hottie named Teira Smith. She had been caught stealing and arrested. I decided to help her out. I persuaded the guard to let her go without even actually paying her fine. I considered bringing her with me, but she wouldn't travel with Nooble (I can't blame her - that vacant look in his eyes is annoying). I felt a fighter would be of more use to me than a rogue, so I left her behind.
I also bumped into a woman named Sarah Unden, who was looking for her son. I said that I'd keep one eye open for him.
I traveled directly to the Thirsty Thunder Beast, where I was supposed to meet Thistle. He was, in fact, there, but a couple of "lovers" had him cornered. Apparently, they thought he had stolen their ring. It was stolen by a halfling, and he was a halfling. Apparently, that was enough of a resemblance for them. I agreed to find the ring to end this mess.
Also in the Thirsty Thunder Beast, I became aware that the proprietor stored fire beetles in the basement for someone named Fistoon. The fire beetles were becoming a nuisance, so he paid me to exterminate them for him. I was nearly killed, but Noobles and I managed to overcome them.
This experience revealed to me the precarious nature of my position. As a rogue, I wasn't as durable as I could be, despite my high constitution. I pledged to learn more of the fighting occupation.
After a brief rest, I began to search the town systematically. Many doors were locked in such a way that I could not open them no matter how hard I tried. I tried picking the locks and tried bashing the doors down, but it was all to no avail.
The first door that would open was the shop of Preszmyr the Herbalist. I wasn't impressed by his stock, but pledged to recover his Love Philtre that was mistakenly sold to a woman at Ehaevaera's Beauty Rooms.
I came upon Fistoon in the market square. I told some guard that Fistoon was keeping fire beetles in the inn. The guard told me that he couldn't do anything within evidence, but if I broke into Fistoon's apartment and found some evidence of his wrongdoing, I could bring it to the guard. It sounded like a sting operation to me, but I went along with.
In Fistoon's house (which was labeled on my map for some reason), I found a recipe for fire beetle noodles. I gave it to the guard, and, apparently, this was enough evidence for him. Fistoon will face the council for evading some kind of fire beetle tax. I gloated to Fistoon about this, but he didn't seem to care.
Next I bumped into a guy with a broken wagon. With some effort, I fixed it for him.
I'm not entirely sure that was when my epiphany occurred, but I believe it was. In any case, it did happen at some point.
After that, I entered a small apartment, which was the other half of Fistoon's duplex. Some girl inside told me that she lost her grandmother's locket. Oddly, I was given the option to kill her (possible replies to conversations appear floating in the air in front of me), but I ignored it and promised to find the locket for her.
I traveled a short distance to Ehaevaera's Beauty Rooms to recover the Love Philtre. I convinced the dimwitted guard that I was an ugly woman. This caused me to wonder what a dwarven woman looks like and keep my eyes open for any (apparently, dwarven women have beards, though I had never encountered one at this time). It was a simple matter to recover the Love Philtre. Some chick told me that she would only give it up if the bartender at the Thirsty Thunder Beast was in love with her already so that she didn't need to use the Love Philtre on him. I resolved this issue by lying to her and telling her the he loved her. And she handed it over.
Then I came to Carl's Craft Cornucopia and The Steel Scabbard, two fine shops. I purchased some equipment. The main thing I acquired was a heavy crossbow and some bolts. Now I was prepared for anything. Noobles will run out in front and get killed by my enemies while I pick them off with my crossbow.
I came to a third shop, Argah Lalla's Curios and Crafts. Sarah Unden's boy was standing there. I talked to him, and he offered to sell me a ring. It was obviously stolen, so I convinced him to hand it over. The boy ran off, but I made a mental note that some guy named Byrt may be prejudiced against halflings.
Gasp! Am I prejudiced against halflings? I've been calling them halflings, and I don't even know what they want to be called. Maybe the want to be called hobbits or balrogs or some such thing. I'll have to ask Thistle.
Argah Lalla sold me the girl's missing locket. He also told me not to go into the back room, which only sparked my curiosity. I resolved to come back later.
Even though I had the ring, I continued my circuit around the town. I came to 3 houses. A guy standing in front of one asked me to break in because his father was locked inside, and I did. I actually missed one house (which I hear contains a guy waiting for his leg to be healed by the House of Healing, which doesn't seem to exist). The other house contained a couple of weak bandits who attacked me on sight.
After this, I returned the locket, ring, and love philtre to their rightful owners and told the bartender at the Thirsty Thunder Beast that the chick at Ehaevaera's Beauty Rooms loved him (as my good deed for the day).
At some point, I had an epiphany. I'm not quite sure when, but it was almost like I'd gained some arbitrary numerical value and became somehow better. I suddenly gained a level of the Fighter occupation. This increased my weapons skill and survival chances greatly. I acquired the feat of Point Blank Shot as well, so that I wouldn't have to switch weapons when my enemies approached me.
Although I could have left at that point, I wanted to see what was in Argah Lalla's back room. I went back there, disarmed the trap, and picked the lock. Then Argah Lalla and his cronie attacked me. Noobles and I managed to defeat them.
The back room didn't actually have much that was interesting, but I did fine some scrolls and magical arrows. With my knack for using magical devices, I would be able to use those scrolls as needed.
I sold most of my loot and purchased a Cloak of Protection +1.
Finally, I returned to Thistle and traveled with him to Eureka. During the journey, I asked him about the halfling-hobbit-balrog issue, but he just looked at me and shook his head.
Upon arrival in Eureka, I suddenly saw a vision of beauty, only it was a person, not a vision. Her name was Anera, and she was an Aasimon. It turns out that she was a worshipper of Kelemvor and came to Eureka because she felt some kind of tremor in the Force. I asked her to come with me, but she wouldn't travel with Noobles either. I ditched Noobles because a cleric should be of more use to me than a fighter.
I looked around, and Thistle was nowhere to be seen. That whole balrog thing must have really annoyed him.
In Eureka, there was an inn. I killed the only guest just in case he had loot, but he didn't have much. Every other building was overrun by zombies, who Anera and I killed. With her healing skills, I became an unstoppable zombie-slaying machine. At one point, Anera was killed, and I mourned her death. Right when I was about to pick through her belongings, she came back to life and got back up. That was convenient. She's probably more useful to me alive. And maybe I will one day be able to use her as a birthing pod for my children.
My explorations lead to a cave, which had an unstable ceiling. A sign advised to wear a hard hat, but I didn't have a helmet. I made a mental note to get one later.
The cave was inhabited by some crazy old guy and some wolves. We killed them. In this cave, I found some loot, including a finely crafted rapier and hammer, as well as a small shield. I used these at times during melee combat. After the slaughter and looting, we went down a trap door, which lead back to the halfling. Since this appeared to be the only way to go, we allowed the halfling to ferry us up the stream.
[It's possible to go directly to the cave with the halfling by climbing down a tree stump in Eureka, but then you miss out on the crazy guy and the wolves.]
This took us to another cave. We fought our way through some orcs and goblins. I also found a suit of chain mail, which replaced my much less effective leather armor. Unfortunately, I was forced to leave some my loot behind because I couldn't carry that much. Anera's a bit dainty and wouldn't help me carry anything.
Additionally, I found a helmet, now that I no longer needed it. I brought it with me anyways.
We came upon some guy named Topak. He was a Red Shield in Captain Preth's command, but he was chased into the cave by Zhentarim and couldn't get back out because of the goblins. He was in such dire straits that he joined us. I doubt he would have if Noobles was with us, but Anera is a much more attractive traveling companion.
Topak wouldn't help me carry anything either. Jerk.
We defeated some more goblins. Some goblin had a magical shield hidden. I replaced my small shield with it. I also found a puzzle ring. The voice in my head told me that the combination was "314", which turned the ring into a Ring of Protection +1. Of course, I had already bought a Cloak of Protection +1, so the 2 combined had no extra effect. It's a pity I'd bought that Cloak of Protection +1, but I had no way of knowing that I'd find the ring.
I have a Wand of Negative Energy, which I believe I obtained somewhere in these caves. I'm keeping it just in case I want to use it one day. I don't believe it's any better than bows or crossbows, but I kept it regardless.
Before long, we exited the cave, bringing us to the Forest of Wyrms.
Topak pointed me directly towards Captain Preth, but I figured Topak was too dumb to have any sense of direction. So I wandered everywhere but to where Topak said to go.
In this area, I encountered 2 pairs of looters, 1 pair hostile and the other pair peaceful. I killed them all and looted all the corpses I could find. Searching the area, I ran into some bugbears, who I killed.
I encountered some Zhentarim, who I avoided. Then I encountered a merchant, who I sold my loot to. I bought an additional magic bag (I had found one somewhere along the way) and went back to the cave to collect the loot I left behind.
With Topak and Anera's help, I managed to defeat some guy named Shrak. Apparently, he lived in a shack collecting corpses. He revealed some kind of diabolical plot before I killed him, and conveniently left behind evidence of this. He also left behind some nice loot, including Studded Leather Armor +1 and a magical sword called Blackmarrow. Though the studded leather wasn't as effective as the chain mail, I used it anyways as it was lighter and had less of an effect upon my rogue skills.
Part of the problem with using the Studded Leather Armor +1 instead of the chain mail was that my Bracers of Armor no longer had any effect. My stealth abilities make up for that - they are effectively unusable when I wear chain mail. In any case, I will improve my dexterity until I gain as much of a bonus to armor class as my armor will allow.
Defeating Shrak caused me to have another epiphany. I learned even more about fighting. I became tougher and more able to withstand damage, as well as gaining the ability to target specific body parts with my attacks.
After defeating Shrak, I finally wandered around until I found Captain Preth. Topak ran off and joined the Red Shields immediately. (I'm glad I didn't bring him back here before I fought Shrak.) I told Captain Preth about the message, and he told me about a fake messenger who came before. Then he sent me to find out who caused all this, but I already knew it was Shrak. Before leaving with Captain Preth, I went to the Zhentarim and warned them about Shrak as well. Then I killed their lookouts for good measure. Filled with overconfidence, I tried to attack the Zhentarim patrol as well. Their captain killed me in short order, but I mysteriously was restored to life.
Then I left the Forest of Wyrms with Captain Preth.
This is a module for Neverwinter Nights, which was played by the character Moisin Irofin II.
Josura sent me to travel with Thistle again. The evidence I got from Shrak included a claim ticket, which Josura wanted me to follow up on. So I was sent to the village of Hill's Edge.
This time, Thistle stayed with the boat instead of running off. Noobles and Teira had come along as well, and I brought Noobles with me as some mindless muscle.
I went straight to my objective: the Freetrader's Public Warehouse. I turned the claims ticket and went into one of the storage rooms. I was promptly attacked by some crazy cleric, who we killed. I got a great sword named Fleshtaster from him. This is now my primary melee weapon as it allows me to regenerate when I damage my enemies.
After defeating the cleric, words appeared in my magic journal. They seemed to indicate that I have to wipe out an entire temple of these guys. I don't know precisely why, but I might as well do what the magic journal says.
I proceeded to pick the locks to the other store rooms and loot them as the attendant stood there and watched. Noobles asked my why I was doing it, and I told him it was for the loot. For some on reason, a chill went done my spine as I said this. It's almost as if I arbitrarily became more evil.
There were some flying things in one of the storerooms, but they were easily dispatched. I found some miscellaneous loot, as well as robes of cold and fire resistance (though I may have found one of them later on - I can't recall). I kept the robes just in case I ever meet an enemies that have that kind of magic.
After leaving the warehouse, I decided to loot the town systematically like I did with that first town I was in. I bumped into some kind who was wandering around in the middle of the night. He mentioned that there were orc raids here, which doesn't surprise me. I considered killing the kid for loot, but feared the might be repercussions later. I had a brief vision of a high-powered paladin visiting a town and killing one guy. This caused everyone else to become hostile, which meant he had to kill everyone else in the town as well. Doing this prevented him from leaving town because he had to kill the only guy who could bring him out of town. Oddly, whenever he walked to the edge of town, there was no place to go.
I can't afford to get stuck in that kind of limbo.
I entered an inn called the Joyous Juggler. While here, I heard that the current mayor cut back the militia, which explains the orc raids. I also heard about a magic robe that was stolen from the Cry of Joy temple.
I went upstairs and proceeded to rob some guy. That idiot, Noobles, started bashing the treasure chest I was unlocking and woke up the guy. He attacked, so we killed him. He didn't have much of value.
Next, I walked into someone's house. It turned out that a woman named Lady Leroni lived here, and she wanted me to steal the Thayan Falcon from the mayor's mansion. I said I'd do it because I'm just that kind of guy.
I visited several shops. One old guy in one of the shops told me he'd pay me if I brought him any old books. Some magical items caught my eye, but I didn't have the money for them.
I then broke into 3 homes, which were for the most part overrun by bandits. The sorry state of the militia has brought Hill's Edge to sad times. I took a "mighty" long bow from one of these bandits, and one of the others had the stolen robe.
I sold my heavy crossbow to use the mighty long bow instead, but I almost immediately regretted it. The long bow's faster, but it doesn't have quite the oomph of the heavy crossbow. I think it should do roughly the same amount of damage as the heavy crossbow due to its enchantment, but I'm not entirely certain.
I went to the Cry of Joy and returned their robe. At this point, I had another epiphany and became a level 2 rogue. This provided me with the ability to evade attacks better. My dexterity also increased.
Then I crossed the bridge to the other half of town. The first building I came to was the barracks for the militia. Due to budget cuts, there was only one old man in there. He suggested that I see Baern, captain of the militia.
Then I came upon Anera standing in front of the Fists of the Future temple. I ditched Noobles and enlisted Anera. She was here because she felt a tremor in the Force again. I made small talk and tried to seduce her, but all to no avail. I just don't have enough conversation options.
I entered Baern Strayarrow's home. He talked about how terrible the new mayor was and made accusations of consorting with Zhentarim, but he refused to run for mayor and suggested Donnel instead. Then, I entered Donnel's house. With Baern's recommendation, Donnel agreed to run for mayor.
I continued exploring the area and came upon some orcs in the southern part of the town. I believe they were stealing chickens. In any case, I killed them all.
Although I've gotten used to the unopenable doors and the fact that I can never seem to leave a town except at specific points, I was flabbergasted to discover a barn with no inside. There must be tear in the fabric of realty.
At this point, I had only the mayor's mansion and the evil temple to explore. I chose to explore the mayor's mansion first.
There was a hidden area in the wine cellar, which contained a number of Zhentarim. I was annoyed that some of them could become invisible and resolved to increase my ability to see and hear invisible enemies. Their captain left behind the obligatory letter as evidence.
I found enough loot that I had to throw away my trap kits (which were useless given that I have no ability to set traps) and rearrange my equipment in my magic bags. I only encountered this problem because I'm carrying around more weapons than I can use at one time, so I pledged to get rid of the some of them. The loot I found was mostly the same kind of stuff I already had.
I went back to the merchants before looting the rest of the mayor's mansion. I sold my loot. I sold Blackmarrow too because I wasn't using it anymore. All it was doing was weighing me down. If I encountered someone who could only be hit by +1 or better weapons, I would just have to use my magical arrows.
I also bought Bracers of Dexterity +1 and a Ring of Fortitude +1. In combination with the dexterity I gained previously, the new point of dexterity raised my armor class by 1. I didn't really need the ring, but it was cheap.
I returned to the mayor's mansion and confronted the mayor about the Zhentarim. It turns out that he's just an idiot. So I went upstairs and stole the Thayan Falcon.
I showed the Zhentarim letter to Baern, and he resolved to raid the mayor's mansion the next day. Then I went back to Lady Leroni's home and sold her the Thayan Falcon for 500 gold.
Then I prepared to enter the evil temple. Noobles was still standing in front of it, staring off into space. I suppose that's the most I can expect from him.
The front room looked nice enough. There was an evil cleric selling the same junk I could get from the other merchants in Hill's Edge. As I wandered around the ground floor, I was attacked by a number of acolytes, who died easily. If they don't want people wandering around in there, they should at least lock the doors or something (though that wouldn't stop Moisin Irofin II).
I found some old books, which I may be able to sell to that merchant who wants to buy books.
I proceeded through a barely hidden trap door to the basement.
This floor was filled with weak monsters, mostly undead. I found a magical hammer called Cyric's Fist, which is equivalent to my Masterwork Light Hammer, but is magical. I also found a long sword +1, which would have been nice if I hadn't already found and sold two others.
The evil priestess' book that she conveniently left lying around suggested that I go down to the next floor. Since I've been everywhere else in the whole town, that seems like a sensible plan.
The second floor had slightly more powerful undead guardians but also had alot of skeletons (which gave me an excuse to use Cyric's Fist - skeletons are resistant to edged weapons). A friendly specter advised me to find a holy symbol of Jergal so that the guardians on the lower levels wouldn't attack me, and I found 2 in short order.
We came upon a statue, and it gave Anera a shield. Odd, but beneficial.
After finding the stairs down to the 3rd level, I realized that I had one area yet to explore: the northeast. This contained 3 ghoul spiders, who nearly killed us. I had to use a scroll of creature summoning and some healing potions to survive.
The ghoul spiders had a magical mace though, no doubt left behind from one of their previous victims. It's powerful enough that my I can't recognize it with my extensive lore skill, so it will probably be a good replacement for Cyric's Fist. When I find more items I need to identify, I'll use my Lore potion. I've already used up my scrolls of Identify, and I don't want to use up my Lore potion for just one item.
After resting, I proceeded to level 3.
This level contains Jergal's lost temple. It's fairly standard with slightly more powerful undead. There's a chest that I could only get after being polymorphed by a bright light. One room contains chess pieces that are too powerful to defeat, and there's a lever puzzle that I can't complete because Anera won't help.
There are a few ominous notes lying around that suggest that some guy named Orrick who tried to oust Jergal's power may be reincarnated. I have the feeling I'm going to be running into him. He's probably a jerk.
This area contained some undead. Though most of the undead were skeletons, but they were relatively difficult to defeat.
I found a hidden room behind a bookshelf. This room contained a mad priest, who we killed. He was carrying a magic warhammer, which I now use on skeletons instead of Cyric's Fist.
In another room, I was killed by a skeleton warrior who got lucky, but I mysteriously reappeared. I recall a story about a "Nameless One" who came back to life every time he died but had memory loss. I seem to be the same except that I feel less experience instead of losing memories. In any case, I need to do something to make myself harder to kill.
In the room with the skeleton warrior, there's a portal back to the surface. I used it, sold my loot, identified the magical mace (which was useless), and then had nowhere to go. Thistle wouldn't ferry me out of there, and there was no apparent way to exit the town. And it seemed like that night would never end.
So I went back and searched the evil temple again. I found a room I hadn't noticed, but it was pretty much empty. Then in the bottom level I finally searched a desk I hadn't noticed before. It contained a map to the Skull of Orn, so I figured I could bring this to Thistle and end this madness.
As I neared Thistle, Anera gave me a bracer which was clearly inferior to my Bracers of Dexterity. However, it was a sign of our "friendship", so I kept it anyways.
This time Thistle was finally willing to take me out of town to search for the Skull of Orn.
This is a module for Neverwinter Nights, which was played by the character Moisin Irofin II.
In recognition of the fact that I don't want to die, I decided to wield Deliverance (a warhammer +1) and the Cold Iron Shield (a large shield +1) instead of Fleshtaster when fighting in melee. Deliverance does almost as much damage (though it doesn't have any kind of vampiric effect), and I can wield a shield at the same time.
When possible, I'll use my might long bow to kill enemies from afar, but that doesn't usually seem to be an option. I normally only get off a shot or two before melee attackers make it up close, at which point I'm better off with melee weapons. I use melee weapons against archers because that allows me to get attacks of opportunity.
There's not much here except for Thistle and my allies. I brought my friend Anera with me again.
Apparently, this is an underground temple to Jergal. Orcs moved in after the place was abandoned. I encountered Og-Hruth, a half-orc, who joined my party. Anera's willing to travel with him. Apparently, the get along. It's odd - nobody likes Nooble (who stares vacantly out into space) and Anera and Teira have cat fights. So none of them will travel together. But Anera has no problem traveling with some filthy barbarian.
According to Og, humans have attacked the cave looking for an artifact (presumably the Skull of Orn). A bridge was destroyed, so I had to get through a riddle door (which had a difficult enough riddle to keep the orcs out) leading to the upper level.
In the upper level, I encountered Frith Serson, a rogue who's looking for a magical blade that's supposed to be in the cave. I sold him all my loot (including a non-magical human skull I found in the evil temple a while back), and he sold me a heavy crossbow +1 and ring of protection +2. I sold him some unnecessary gear as well and used my heavy crossbow +1 as my primary weapon.
I gained a level (Fighter 3) while fighting some undead. After clearing the level, I sold my new loot to Frith. Then I went downstairs to another part of the temple entrance area - I wouldn't have had to do this except for a destroyed bridge and a door that's unopenable for no apparent reason.
In this area, there are alot of orcs. I defeated the orcs in the main temple by using a Sleep scroll. There was another room that was packed full with orcs. I slammed the door shut so that they would have to come to us, and we could kill them one at a time at the door. Unfortunately, that idiot, Og, ran straight into the room as soon as they opened the door back up.
Alas, that was the end of poor Og. His body disappeared as soon as it hit the ground instead of coming back to life like Anera and I do. I suppose it was inevitable because he wasn't a very good fighter anyways.
The chieftain and his orcs were relatively easy to kill. I had Anera stand her ground, and I shot them as they came out of the door. This tactic seems much more effective than having myself stand in the back as Anera charges the enemies in a berserk rage. She is much more effective holding back and healing me until the enemies get close, at which point I tell her to attack.
The chieftain had some nice armor, a key to the lower level, and some other loot. I finished clearing the level of orcs and went back to Frith to sell my loot. Additionally, I purchased an Amulet of Natural Armor +2, since my current amulet was only a holy symbol of Jergal with no magical powers.
It turns out that there's another area outside the temple when you exit through the east door. There were more orcs and a couple of ogres, who died easily. Anera died once as well when she charged a large group of orcs and was too far ahead for me to catch up with her. I had to use some precious healing potions to survive the orc onslaught because Anera was dead and couldn't heal me.
This area would have been a waste except that killing orcs is an end unto itself.
The first level beneath the temple contains a "Hall of Minor Oddities" (HoMO). Primarily, this has several rooms with weird magical items. One item that drew my attention was the "Armor of the Shadow Realm". It doesn't work well in the regular world, but my lore suggests that it will work better in the Shadow Realm. Since the first thing I saw in life was a banner saying "Shadow Lords", I'm taking that as an omen that I might go to the Shadow Realm one day. I'll hang on to that armor.
There's also a robot who dies when you tell him to do a diagnostic and an immortal penguin, who I tried and failed to kill. A magical device teleported me to Moander's Realm.
Moander's Realm had many followers of Moander, who were relatively easy to defeat. I found a morning star named Decay, which I replaced Deliverance (my warhammer) with. Decay doesn't cause as much damage on critical hits, but it causes acid damage in addition to its +1 enchantment.
I entered a portal and returned to the cave temple.
I found a hidden room, which contained a cavern key. I'm sure I'll need it at some point.
I also went back upstairs to the ground level by different stairs. This put me on the other side of the destroyed bridge, where I picked up some worthless loot before going back downstairs.
I returned to Frith to sell my loot and then came back and fought some fire beetles. I made my way to the upper caves.
These caves contained fish people with loot that was relatively heavy for what it was worth. I killed them and left their belongings behind. It didn't take long to reach the lower caves.
This level contained both fish people and earth elementals. From this point until the end of this dungeon, the battles were so difficult that Anera died in about half the battles. I, on the other hand, stoically hid in the rear as Anera held off groups of enemies.
These caves also contained a dwarf merchant with some awesome items I couldn't afford to buy. I made my onward.
Beneath the lower caves was a temple containing what would best be called "major" oddities. I found the Skull of Orn's altar, but it was missing. I got a magical ring from a demo and th Swiftling Blade from a ghost.
Beneath the temple was Tal'Nash's lair. He used some kind of spell to capture us without a fight, but his lackey, Jered let us out of the cell. Quincel had been captured as well, so we decided to join forces temporarily.
I used a potion of heroism and defeated Tal'Nash with relative ease. After recovering the Skull of Orn, I killed Quincel because she no longer seemed to be useful. Jered joined us. I saw some evidence that Skull of Orn's power was somehow transferred to Jered, but I decided not to kill him yet just in case I needed him alive.
Orrick's "sending" tried to stop me on several occasions, but I defeated his shadows with ease. His sending kept advising me to kill Jered, which I sort of wanted to do .
I went to the lower caves and Anera upgraded the token she gave me. I sold my loot to the merchant in the lower caves but didn't have enough cash to buy what I wanted. I grabbed the relatively worthless loot I abandoned in the upper caves, but even with selling that I didn't have enough.
I returned to HoMO by using some other stairs, which were guarded by weaklings. After being attacked by more of Orrick's shadows, I had an epiphany. I became a level 4 fighter and focused my near feats on improving my skill with the heavy crossbow. During the fight, it became evident that Jered was invincible, so I decided I needed to find a way to kill him.
I experimented on the immortal penguin, but it was to no avail. I determined that since I had no way to kill the penguin, I probably had no way to kill Jered either.
Working my way back out of the temple, I saw an altar and smashed just because I had to walk around a frigging labyrinth because of destroyed bridges and doors that won't open. No matter. I would have had to explore the whole place anyways to find all the loot.
I came to Frith and traded the Swiftling Blade to Frith for Full Plate +2. I sold most of the crap, including the Armor of the Shadow Realm, that I was carrying around (just in case) so that I could kill the full plate. I even sold my shield, but I kept my melee weapon for smashing inanimate objects.
I still didn't have enough cash for the good items in the lower caves, so I chose to hope that I would find other merchants with similar (or even better) items later on.
I returned to the ground floor and encountered more of Orrick's shadows. One was a big thing that kept attacking Jered uselessly, so I killed the others and then killed the big thing. After exiting the temple, I got Thistle to take me to the next area.
This is a module for Neverwinter Nights, which was played by the character Moisin Irofin II.
I've become aware of certain errors I've made with my development. Instead of acquiring useless stealth skills, I should have acquired some skill with picking pockets and setting traps. Those skills would actually be useful. The stealth skills (hide in shadows and move silently) don't help me combat, which is why I haven't improved them in a very long time.
Previously, I equipped relatively light armor and improved my dexterity to improve my armor class. This is taking too long and is kind of stupid. Instead, I now have heavy armor and will not improve my dexterity further.
I'm also concentrating primarily upon my heavy crossbow as a weapon now. I can fire bolts at my enemies as they come to me. Keeping Anera alive is a bit of a hassle, but she comes back to life every time she dies anyways.
After arriving in this area, Anera said she wanted to make out, and I obliged her. We went into the cave and realized that it was an underground city. Phthta appeared and ran off with Jered. Anera wanted to look for him. I started searching the area for loot and figured he'd turn up.
In the Death Guild, Lethmere told me he'd help me get to Phthta if I get a key for him. Anera thought that talking zombies were creepy, but we decided not to kill him because the plot wouldn't be able to move forward. I made out with her again to compensate for the zombie killing she was missing out on.
In the Warmburrow Inn, there were some merchants with relatively pathetic inventories. Stubbyfoot was a man after my own heart in that he referred to his items as "loot" instead of "wares", but his stuff was junk. One of them had one good item: a Fell Crossbow. It's a heavy crossbow providing an impressive attack bonus but reducing the constitution of the wielder. I figured that I was healthy enough that I could afford the loss of constitution and bought it.
I entered some houses. There was little of note except for a healer of undead and another guy named Denep. I told Denep that I was named Horth because I could. He was relatively absent-minded, so he didn't notice that I gave him several different reasons for searching for Orrick when I talked to him multiple times. Anera looked at me funny, perhaps wondering why I would bother. I do things like this just for kicks.
The Church of Lathander contained a priest who sent me to loot the Zhentarim tower, though he didn't use the word "loot" explicitly.
There are some excellent shopkeepers in this area, though I didn't have enough money left to buy their really good items. I bought a bag of holding so that I would have to make less trips back-and-forth with the loot I plan to acquire in the near future.
I tried to break down the back door to the bone miners' guild, but it was taking too likely. I walked around the building and went in the front door, which was unlocked. Upon entry, I tried to join up, and they sent me to kill some vampires. I guess that's how they haze the newbies around here.
I found a goblin whorehouse, which I felt compelled to enter. The whores wanted their whoring contracts back, so I talked to the matron. She wouldn't sell the whoring contracts for a reasonable price, so I killed her and her guards. Her guards managed to take out Anera while she was trying to heal me, but I consoled her by making out with her after she came back to life.
The whores gave me a magic book which casts the spell on whatever page you're looking at. The only problem is that you can never turn the page backwards. I turned the page until I got to "Summon Creature 1" and then stopped.
I heard that the old town contained mindless undead who would attack me on sight. So I went there to slaughter them and take their stuff. There were moderately tough monsters who were easily defeated due to their small numbers. They had little loot though. One building was oddly quiet, but I still heard strange sounds. It's just one of life's little mysteries.
I found the cleric who was kidnapping undead and killed him. After reporting to the Lethmere, he gave me a key to Phthta's stronghold.
I looted the Zhentarim tower and found what the Church of Lathander wanted. I decided to smash their furniture to teach them a lesson. I smashed one chair and then discovered that I could "lock" the other. I don't know what exactly that does, but it didn't stop me from sitting on it. In any case, I left their tower with just one chair, which was now locked.
After returning to the Church of Lathander, the priest told me where the entrance to Phthta's tower is. I entered the South Caves, searched the area, and murdered a goblin who had a shiny ring. I killed the vampire and entered Phthta's realm.
Phthta wasn't hard to find. She gave back Jered and sent us all to Orrick. Orrick was invicible, but we teleported to the Dark Plane.
I've grown weary of writing this journal. We defeated the evil easily. I became a regenerating, creature-summoning, dwarven beast. Drunk with power, I killed many innocent bystanders and descended into chaos and evil. Anera helped, but somehow remained dedicated to law and good. Anera doesn't like the change in me, but agreed to shack up at an inn when I said I wanted to meet her parents.
The Dreamcatcher and Demon modules remain, and I intend to go through them. However, I do not intend to write another chronicle. Writing to this journal takes up to match skull-smashing time. Raaaarrr!
