Character Types

Name: Smuggler

Category: Profession

Description: A smuggler is someone who moves goods illegal. These goods may be stolen or contraband, or they may just be smuggled to avoid paying taxes.

To successfully smuggle goods, a smuggler must do one of several things. He could avoid the authorities altogether (i.e. by traveling through a relatively unpopulated area late at night). He could hide the goods (i.e. by putting them in a hidden floor in a wagon of a caravan transporting regular goods). If caught, a smuggler with fast transportation might be able to escape the authorities.

Smugglers may have to travel through hostile terrain or dangerous territory, and they will have to be both crafty and flexible. In areas plagued by Bandits, smugglers will have to bring along some mercenaries for protection or pay some kind of "protection" money to the bandits themselves.

Smugglers often work with Fences. Fences buy stolen goods, and smugglers take them to another city to be sold.
