Category: Profession
Description: A rider has a strong bond with her mount. The rider's mount could be a horse, but it could also be something strange, like a dog or a giant lobster.
A rider's mount is not just an ordinary mount. Riders and their mounts are completely dedicated to eachother. Either would die for the other.
Combat Technique: Riders always prefer to fight on horseback. Lances, lassos, and nets are common weapons of choice.
Preferred Skills: Horse riding.
Benefit: The rider and her mount may be able to communicate through speech, telepathy, or some other means. The rider gains a strong bonus to dealing with animals of this type.
Disadvantage: The rider must spend much of her starting wealth to obtain a mount. If the rider ever kills an animal of her mount's type without provocation, the mount will leave the rider forever and all animals of that type will attack the rider on sight. If the rider's mount dies, the rider may seek out another mount of the same type. After finding a suitable mount and performing some sort of ritual, the rider will achieve a link with the new mount. The rider can't just purchase a new mount on a whim. And if the rider's mount is missing, the rider can't bond with a new mount unless the previous mount dies.
