Character Types

Name: Gladiator

Category: Profession

Description: A gladiator is a warrior who fights in arena combat for the entertainment of the audience. The gladiator is either a professional paid fighter or an unpaid slave. Flashy weapons techniques are appropriate for gladiators.

Some gladiators may be brutes, but other may be honorable heroes.

Gladiators are city-based characters and, as such, will typically have skills useful in cities, not skills useful in the wilderness.

Combat Technique: Varies, but gladiators know what they're doing. Gladiators live and die by their combat skills.

Preferred Skills: Any kind of weapon skill. Preferred gladiatorial weapons include the cestus, club, dagger, gauntlet, lasso, mancatcher, net, and short sword. The best gladiatorial weapons inflict damage but aren't lethal.

Benefit: Gladiators have exceptional weapon skills.

Disadvantage: Gladiators are often recognized by their fans wherever they go. Also, if the gladiator is a slave, that's a big disadvantage. The gladiators managers, promoters, enemies, and fans will often interfere with the gladiator's life.
